Mayo Clinic claims that an ear ache is most commonly caused by some bacterial infection In the ear, and it can be really painful. Nevertheless, sometimes an ear infection is caused due to some other health conditions such as allergies, cold or flu.
These conditions usually cause inflammation, swelling in the ear, throat and nose and congestions. Usually, an ear infection disappears on its own without having to treat it with medications. However, this doesn’t mean that you are supposed to endure the pain. Fortunately, there are some natural ways you can use in order to relieve pain and here are some of them:
Onion
Kula Mama wrote an article which claims that onion is extremely helpful in the treatment of an ear ahce. All you have to do is to slice an onion in half and take our the inner rings. Next, heat the outer rings in the oven at 300ºF (150ºC). Once the rings start steaming, remove and wrap them in a towel. Cup the towel-covered onion over the infected ear.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is yet another great solution for aching ear. In order to use it, you should heat 1/8 cup of coconut oil with 2 cloves of garlic in a small saucepan. Next, allow the oil and garlic to simmer for 5 minutes and then strain the mixture. After that, lie down on your side and apply 2 drops of the oil into the aching ear. Lie still for five minutes. You can use this remedy twice per day for a week until or until the symptoms go away.
Olive oil
In order to alleviate inflammation which is the main cause of the ache, you should drop a few drops of olive oil in your ear. You can use olive oil for adults and for babies as well as it is safe and natural.
Garlic
Garlic is the most potent natural remedy and due to its antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties, you can use it in the treatment of an ear ache. All you have to do is to stick a clove of garlic in the infected ear. Another solution is to make garlic-infused oil. To prepare it, you will need one fresh minced garlic clove and some olive oil. Allow it to sit on low heat for 20 minutes and when the olive oil is infused, strain, and remove the garlic. After the mixture has cooled off, you can drop two drops of oil into the ear.
Ginger
Ginger tea is the best solution for the treatment of an ear ache. However, there is another solution which involves soothing oil from ginger juice. In order to prepare it, grate a piece of fresh ginger and crush it to squeeze out the juice. After that, warm the juice and put 4 drops into the aching ear.
Apple cider vinegar
Livestrong suggests people to heat some ACV and then pour a couple of drops in the ear. After that, take some cotton, cover the ear and lie down in order to allow the liquid to reach deep into the ear.
Honey
According to a Swedish study, honey is extremely effective in fighting bacteria known as the common cause of an ear infection. All you have to do is to pour couple of drops into your aching ear.
